About the Study Cudworth Local History and Heritage Group

The Cudworth Local History and Heritage Group was set up in 1996.

The Group aims to collect or copy and record items such as photographs, deeds, brochures, advertisements, postcards, maps and bits & bobs that relate to the history of Cudworth. We also accept donations of items that are of interest.

An Image Archive has been created incorporating the images collected so far and which is added to on a constant basis. Volunteers are needed to scan and enter information about images which have been donated into the Group’s Archive database. This is easy to use and requires no previous experience.

Meeting
We meet on Wednesdays from 10am to 12 noon in Cudworth Centre of Excellence (the library), ask the librarian for directions to our meeting room. This is a semi-structured meeting with informal talks and occasional speakers. We suggest a £1 donation per meeting towards running costs and refreshments. There is no formal membership subscription and the meetings are open to all who are interested in the history of Cudworth.

Publications
Two local books have been produced by members of the Group. Cutha’s Worth: the Local and Social History of Cudworth by Ken and Cliff Gorman and Lest Cudworth Forgets by John Hayhoe and Alex Clark, which was produced as part of the project to refurbish Cudworth’s War Memorial in 2004 and which is available to buy for £5 at meetings.

There is also a PC/CD of nearly 1,000 images connected to Cudworth, complete with name index, which can still be bought for just £5.

Outreach
The Group is happy to give talks and presentations to local schools and groups. These can be tailored to the requirements of the audience.

The Group also collects the reminiscences and stories of inhabitants of Cudworth past and present. Our members can visit people in their own homes if necessary to record their stories and of course anyone is welcome to attend the Wednesday meetings to join in on our discussions or to bring along your stories about Cudworth.
