Moray: 57.511548, -3.248377

Moray lies in the north east of Scotland, with coastline on the Moray Firth, and borders the council areas of Aberdeenshire and Highland.

The boundaries of Moray changed with local government reform in the mid 1970s to incorporate parts of historic Banffshire. There is a map of the historic county boundaries of Moray, sometimes labelled Elgin, and Banffshire on the Moray Connections website. Historic Banffshire was split into two in 1975, the west becoming part of Moray and the east part of Aberdeenshire. There is a huge and unique database of information relating to the people of Moray (including the parts formerly in Banffshire) at libindx.moray.gov.uk.

An excellent history of Moray, written by Bruce Bishop, has been reproduced with his permission on the This is Moray site.
